A mob of Anti-war protesters in Dublin hurled shoes and eggs at a former British prime minister.  Tony Blair, in Ireland to promote his rapidly-selling memoirs "A Journey", was pelted with a flurry of shoes and eggs by angry war opponents who lashed out at his supporting the war in the middle east.  What a "shoes and eggs" welcome for the PM.

At or about 200 or more anti-war protesters hurled a flurry of shoes and eggs at former British prime minister (PM) Tony Blair in at a recent book-signing of his memoirs, protesting his stance on the on-going war in the middle east.

The public blames him for playing the role of a pawn for former president George W. Bush, and "selling out their country over war propaganda.

At one point anti-war protesters who hurled shoes and eggs at the former PM, shouted things like, "Arrest the butcher", "war criminal", and more expletives. Someone in the crowd yelled, "Hey hey Tony hey, how many kids have you killed today?"

According to BBC News, Tony Blair arrived at a Dublin bookstore, despite the warnings by police of impending violence and protest about his presence.  Crowd-gatherers were asked to hand over any contraband including cell phones, as part of security.

The Prime Minister was fully aware that some form of protest would occur, but no one anticipated that he could be pelted with a flurry of shoe and egg missiles.

His memoirs, "A Journey" is a tell-all type book that gets deep into his thoughts about everything,  from relationships to his reasons for supporting the war in Iraq.  He, reportedly received $7 million for the controversial book.

It appears the "A Journey" is his way of blowing a bit of steam after his rival, Gordon Brown succeeded him.  He pulls no punches at Brown, claiming he and his wife were "lovers".

He even  talks in a negative light about his once-thought bff, former president Bill Clinton.  He mentions, briefly that Clinton was not like any other man (on his infidelity).

Blair talks about Princess Diana, saying that he regretted arguing with her one month before she died in a car crash.

But, more than likely, anti-war protesters hurled shoes and eggs at Blair based on his stance on Islam and his belief that the war was the "right thing to do".

Blair, professes the love for his country, and that no one could explain what it was "like to be the human being at the center of that history."

Although the angry crowd of anti-war protesters hurled shoes and eggs at Tony Blair, the former prime minister was not hit by the flurry of projectiles.

Perhaps, that was a symbolic, "shock and awe" back at him, compliments of a Bush legacy.

DUBLIN — Anti-war protesters hurled shoes and eggs at Tony Blair on Saturday as he arrived for the first public signing of his fast-selling memoir.

About 200 demonstrators chanted that Blair had "blood on his hands" as the former British prime minister arrived at a Dublin bookstore. A shoe, eggs and other projectiles were thrown toward Blair as he emerged from a car, but did not hit him.

More than 300 people had lined up to get a copy of his memoirs signed, the BBC reported.

Security was tight for the signing, with book buyers told to hand over bags and cell phones before entering Eason's bookstore. Readers were not allowed to take photos or ask Blair to write any personal messages in their copies of his memoir.

According to Sky News, protesters also shouted "Hey hey Tony hey, how many kids have you killed today?", "Arrest the butcher!" and branded Blair a "war criminal" as he arrived at the shop.

Citing national broadcaster RTE, Reuters reported that three people were arrested during the protest.

"A Journey" mounts a strong defense of Blair's policies during his decade as prime minister, including the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

In an interview aired Saturday, Blair rejected claims that the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan had increased Muslim radicalization, saying said "wicked and backward-looking" radical Islam is the greatest threat to global security.

Blair told the BBC World Service "the biggest threat in international security is this broader radicalized movement, because I think it is rather similar to revolutionary communism."

He said al-Qaida-linked extremism was "loosely a global ideological movement, but Iran is a state sponsor of it."

Blair, who converted to Catholicism after quitting Downing Street and whose maternal grandparents were Protestant farmers in Ireland, played a central role in striking a peace deal in Northern Ireland in 1998.
