Back to school shopping means finding a good pair of school shoes. Kids spend a lot of time on their feet, walking, running, jumping and playing. The most import part of school shoes shopping is to look for comfort.
Shoe inserts will make school shoes more comfortable.

When you purchase shoes for your student, whatever style you choose, look for a sturdy, flexible soled shoe. The sole should have some contour to fit the foot. If the shoe or sandal you purchase has no contour to fit the foot, pick up a pair of gel shoe inserts. Gel shoe inserts have several advantages over other styles of shoe inserts. Gel inserts provide more cushion, resistance and support that foam shoe inserts. Gel inserts feel more comfortable to walk on.

There are several brands and styles of shoe inserts. Dr. Scholl's, Kiwi, Hydropedes, FootSmart, WalkFit are just a few of the better known brands of gel shoe inserts. There are many good brands of gel shoe inserts including store varieties of major name brands. The issue with buying shoe inserts isn't so much about which brand you choose or how much money you pay for a brand of shoe inserts. The issue is to choose a style and shape of shoe insert that fits your foot shape. Do you have high arches or flat feet? Either way, you will want shoe inserts with some arch support. Do you walk on the outside edges of your feet? Then you will want gel shoe inserts that are built up along the edges to help you walk on your whole foot and prevent you from turning your feet out. This holds true if you walk on the inside edges of your feet, too.

Look for shoe inserts with toe grips. Toe grips are situated below the toes and provide support for the toes. The important factor in comfortable shoes is to keep the feet secure, but not pinched. Many people choose a shoe that is somewhat too large for them, to get more comfort. Shoes that are too large are counterproductive and uncomfortable. The foot slides around in a too-large shoe makes it difficult to walk comfortably. Gel shoe inserts will hold the foot securely and provide good support.
