| Abercrombie Kids, Children's Place leave Southdale - Birmingham Business Journal Posted: 12 Jan 2011 12:05 PM PST Southdale Mall's youth apparel offerings will get a bit slimmer. Abercrombie Kids at the Edina shopping center has closed and The Children's Place will go dark before the end of the month, employees at both stores said. The Abercrombie Kids store was separate from an Abercrombie & Fitch store, which remains open. A manager at The Children's Place said the store will close on Jan. 22. That store is offering deep discounts to clear its racks. Officials at the corporate offices for both stores could not be reached. Messages left this week for a local spokesperson for Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group Inc. (NYSE: SPG), Southdale's owner, were not returned. Southdale has struggled in recent years to retain retailers -- and shoppers -- but got some good news late last year when Herberger's agreed to take over the anchor spot that Mervyn's vacated in 2004.
